Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School

A Voluntary Academy

University Links

Sacred Heart maintains close links with local universities, both for the training of future teachers but also to support research in Primary Education.
We are proud to say that many of our class teachers over the years were under-graduate students based in the school during their training.
Below is a breakdown of just some of the projects that Sacred Heart have been asked by higher education institutions to take part in.

Leeds Beckett University Student acknowledges the school's professional collaboration in contributing to her completing her dissertation as part of her BSc (hons) degree from Leeds Beckett University. In her dissertation titled, 'Investigation of Primary School Children's Thoughts and Perceptions around Gender Stereotypes', Kirenpreet Kaur acknowledged the school with the following:

'To the staff and students at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, thank you for welcoming me into your school with open arms and giving up your time to help me during this process - to the children especially, this research wouldn't’t have been possible without you, thank you.'

The school continues to take a key role in the professional training of teachers entering the profession. Close ties with Trinity University and Leeds Beckett enable these institutions to confidently send their under graduates to Sacred Heart which is an environment of challenge, high expectations and professionalism.

See this quote from Leeds Trinity's Helen Kenneally (Institute Partnerships Manager):

'I am pleased to let you know that the training provided by your school has been recognised as being of the highest quality.
The mentor summary report identified that trainees had an excellent induction process and the school demonstrated the highest level of commitment to Initial Teacher Education. Trainees had the opportunity to observe good and outstanding teachers and assessment was rigorous and informed by pupil progress over time. The quality of support offered to trainees was excellent. There was a well-embedded whole-school approach towards Initial Teacher Education.
Our trainees really value the support and guidance your school provides. Thank you for providing such excellent training experiences.'

An alliance of North American Universities are have been collaborating on research called the Good Behaviour Game. This initiative aimed at improving the learning behavior of children in primary school has extended over the Atlantic and Manchester University are taking it forward in the United Kingdom. Sacred Heart is a beacon school for successful research and Miss Togher (Year 4) has become an ambassador who regularly meets with university staff.

The Trinity University Children's University has been a huge hit at our school after having our first graduation in 2017 we are looking ahead to our next potential graduates in 2018. For more details see our page all about the Children's University.
