Welcome to Year 2
Welcome to Year 2. In this final year of Key Stage 1 we encourage the children to work more independently, while still supporting them through a range of engaging and hands-on activities. By now, their reading and writing skills are developing strongly, and we focus on extending vocabulary, improving grammar, and building stamina for longer pieces of writing. In maths, children consolidate their knowledge of number and place value, practise strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and begin to apply these skills to problem-solving. Science investigations, history and geography projects, and opportunities in art, music, and PE all contribute to a broad and balanced curriculum.
