The aim of our Sacred Heart Futures programme is to inspire our Key Stage 2 pupils by introducing them to people from a wide range of jobs, careers, and life experiences.

Our guest speakers give a 30 minute presentation to the children about what their job or business involves, the journey they took to get there, what skills or qualities are important for their field, and their advice or encouragement for young people. Importantly, we are not looking for unique or unusual careers. We want the children to learn about all the different jobs and pathways they could follow if they work hard and make positive choices – whether that’s in trades, services, creative industries, business, healthcare, education, or any other field.

In our first Sacred Heart futures event, Sylvia Cullen, a junior barrister, spoke about her role, what her job involves, and how the criminal justice system works. To bring her talk to life, Sylvia set up a real courtroom experience based on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Children took on the roles of the jury and the judge, carefully considering the evidence and asking thoughtful questions. It was a truly inspiring session that gave our pupils a glimpse into the world of law and justice. Both children and staff left feeling proud and excited, showing just how powerful it is to put big ideas into little minds.

We will share more Sacred Heart Futures events as they occur. If you would be willing to share your experiences, or if you know someone (family, friend,
colleague) who might like to take part, please get in touch with us via the school office.
