Welcome to Year 4
During this year, children become increasingly confident and independent in their learning. They consolidate their Lower Key Stage 2 knowledge and prepare for the national multiplication tables check at the end of the year. English work includes writing for different purposes, using more ambitious vocabulary and grammar, and reading with expression and understanding. In maths, children practise and apply multiplication and division facts up to 12 × 12, explore fractions and decimals, and solve increasingly complex word problems. Beyond the core subjects, pupils enjoy a wide range of curriculum experiences—science experiments, history and geography topics, creative arts, and opportunities to use technology in their work. Trips and visitors help bring these subjects to life, making learning meaningful and memorable. Year 4 is also a time when children begin to take more responsibility for their work, organisation, and presentation.
