Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6, the culminaton of your child's primary school journey, and a year of magic, memories, and milestones. It begins in September with a two-night residential packed full of outdoor challenges at How Stean Gorge in North Yorkshire. This trip helps to build teamwork, resilience, and confidence at the start of the year.

Academically, Year 6 is focused on consolidating knowledge and preparing for the Key Stage 2 SATs in May. Children develop greater independence in writing, refine their reading comprehension skills, and tackle more complex problem-solving in maths. Science investigations, history and geography enquiries, and creative opportunities in art, drama, and music ensure that learning remains rich and varied alongside test preparation.

After SATs, the focus turns to transition and celebration. Pupils enjoy enrichment activities, project work, and a retreat day where they reflect on their learning journey at Sacred Heart and prepare for the exciting step to secondary school.

It is also a year of developing leadership, with opportunities for children to take on responsibilities and be role models for younger pupils. A memorable year of building confidence, independence, and resilience.
