RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

"We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise."
Saint Oscar Romero

Christ is at the heart of our school. Our faith influences the values that we teach, the community that we build, how we support people in their journeys of faith and comfort them through any difficulties. Building from our Mission Statement, we focus on growth: personal, spiritual, social, academic, physical and moral. We believe that children in our care become better people and have more to give to the world after spending time with us.

Our RE teaching and learning is developed through working closely with the Leeds Diocese, Hinsley Hall and our local parish church. We are fortunate to work with great practitioners and are keen to develop our pedagogy via the latest RE Curriculum development and guidelines, such as moving from “The Way, The Truth and The Life” through to the “To Know You More Clearly” RECD, moving into the 2024-25 academic year and beyond.

In our school, we are blessed in not only having Catholic and Christian families to support a community of faith but also members of other cultures, faiths and nations. We are grateful for the wonderful opportunity that this provides us, in learning more about each other as children of God. It is through inter-religious discourse, shared values, tolerance and respect for each other that we grow together.

Our RE lessons in school follow the prescribed curriculum, supported by additional enrichment such as class worship, school worship, prayer focus time, additional observances (e.g. rosary prayer groups), visits to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, our Nativity and Easter productions and much more.

Development of learning within each topic is supported by Knowledge Organisers, with skill focus statements, important Scripture references, key teachings and important vocabulary. We use additional resources, such as the TWTTATL teacher/student books and more resources from the TKYMC scheme. Our hope is that no matter what children’s journey in faith before they come to us they develop with us an understanding and appreciation of faith and its importance in people’s lives.
