My name is Elaine Hughes and I am the Designated Safeguarding Lead Practitioner. One of the main parts of my role in school is to offer support and guidance to children, young people, and their families. Any young person experiencing difficulties, struggling with their work or with social, emotional or behavioural problems will receive my support.
Families are also able to access support for all sort of reasons, including help with parenting, adult mental health and wellbeing, financial and housing concerns.
As Safeguarding Lead, I am committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment. It is everyone’s responsibility to safeguard children in school and provide a safe environment in which they can learn. We have policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment.
Occasionally, we share information with other agencies if we have a concern about your child’s safety. We would usually tell you about this beforehand to explain the reasons why. Equally, other agencies may share information with us if they have a concern about a child’s safety at home.
We follow safer recruitment policy and guidelines in line with Department for Education guidance, Keeping Children Safe in Education. This is to ensure all recruitment for employees, volunteers and placements, is both safe and fair. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is an integral factor in recruitment and selection and is an essential first step in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and creating safe environments for children.
Prevent duty
Our safeguarding responsibilities include protecting children from radicalisation and extremism. This is known as the Prevent duty. More information is available here.
Domestic violence
Sadly, we know that some of our families have experienced domestic violence and abuse. The following organisation provides support to women and men in Leeds whose lives have been affected in this way.
